Too heavy For south Dakota.

In South Dakota, the Sully County Planning Commission has told the developers of Heritage Farms 2000 that it is very concerned that a community of 500 families will place too heavy a burden on its school system and infrastructure.  The resulting publicity for our community generated many proposals from other states.  So, we chose the White Mountains of Arizona instead.

The plan to retrofit the land, called Heritage Farms 2000, into a "beautiful city for people who want to live in a safe environment", as a South Dakota project was perhaps a victim of its own success. We knew we had an idea whose time is NOW. Your response placed such a heavy burden on our response system that we knew our idea has struck a nerve. We knew there is a demand for property in a city that will weather the y2k turmoil, and go on to become the Model City for the new millennium.

Patent attorney Russ Vorhees Global Millennium Foundation has now purchased 512 lots on 675 acres in Arizona.
--Concho, Az.
--and Heritage West 2000 -- is that place !!

Vorhees said thousands of potential buyers expressed interest in securing a half acre lot, in Heritage Farms, for $10,000 for five years or purchase of the lots for an additional $24,750. The Heritage Farms developers are now putting the finishing touches on the site plan for Heritage West 2000.  It will be even more than we could have offered in South Dakota.

He predicts about 1,000 people will start moving in as early as next March. We’re still on track to have residential sites ready for move-in by the summer of 1999. We thank you for your interest, your offers of cash reservations, and your support. Heritage West 2000 is moving forward with all due haste.  Those who have expressed an interest in reserving a lot should be receiving a packet of information by early october.

I would like to know if any of you TT (Troubled Times) subscribers are interested in forming a real group. By that I mean a group where everyone supports each other in a close-knit STO community. As a member of a STO community, you will participate by supporting others physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs. This will be a challenging atmosphere and will be oriented strongly in Service-to-Others. Just what your soul ordered.

Anyone wanting to form such a democratic community, please contact me via e-mail, snail-mail, or ICQ, indicating your interest. I would like to apply the valuable information TT provides in a community where such applications are realistic. This is my desire. I’ve visited a commune before. Everyone was very friendly, and open. There were no rules. However there’s room for improvement.

Believe me, we don’t want to wait until the world’s industrial seams are poppin’, and things are coming undone. Two-and-half years from now food shortages are going make the population restless, to the point of riots, and emotions will be at their extremes. The Federal deficit is going to explode (notice the volatile stock market), and the currency based economy will collapse, just like it did in Germany in WW II. It’s going to get painfully ugly. It sounds scary to me too. In a STO community, we can escape some of the hardship by accepting some sacrifices now in our comforts and some limitations in our desires.

The first step is to show some interest. So contact me if you are interested in starting/joining a STO community. It starts out small and snowballs later, but one problem at a time. In the future, if we can get enough people interested, then it will be the time for commitment. This proposal will never be a pitch for financial contributions, or other scams. This is an earnest attempt to get some lines of communication established, just as TT has done.

Right now, my goal is to create a database of interested individuals who are willing to literally uproot themselves from their currently comfortable lives and join together as STOs in a community. As for myself, I am willing and able. I know that some of you have loved ones to consider, and other factors beyond your control, so I won’t expect to hear from you. Please, though, don’t diminish other hopes in this regard by in anyway dashing at thoughts that people from all makes and backgrounds can come together, live together, and work together, for each other.

There are many variables, but for the most part, it's all about location and money. Here is how I suggest a thinking person approach this;

These are HUGE questions. Be sure you consider all these (and more) things first. The point is, really think it through, and if you have decided you want to investigate, I have some good stuff here.

I have located several properties in the White Mountain's in Arizona. The elevation ranges from 5500 ft to 7000 ft. Winter can be a bit cold, but the rest of the year expect mild weather in this area. Here is one, and there are hundreds more. Everything from Tall pines to bare desert. I can help you get in contact with one of the big land brokers and get a 40 acre parcel, with no utilities, for as little as $18K. The same property with a well and some sort of structure will start at about $55K. Some bargains can be found, but the savings will only be paid back in vital repairs, such as wells, structures, erosion, roads etc.

Also available are smaller parcels, 5, 10, 20 acres. Usually the smaller parcels are more developed and nearer to small towns. A small home on 5 acres or so can be had from $50K on up to large ranches with extravagant homes costing $100s of thousands. All of these and more can be acquired through the local Realtors, several of whom I have become acquainted with.

we have 16 acres called windspirit. we all own the land together. windspirit is a nonprofit organization dedicated to spiritually and physically healing ourselves and the earth. we live in harmony with the earth. it is a magical oasis. we have lots of trees and so many birds. this land is very sacred and our valley is beautiful.

The community is located in a rural area (no phone or email) about 25 miles south of Globe, AZ. The elevation is 2700 ft., which provides a climate suitable for citrus and olive as well as apple trees, and year-round gardening. Summer temps. often reach into the 100s; there are occasional light frosts in winter.

The 16 acres are held in common, as are all the couple hundred bearing fruit, nut, and olive trees. Prospective members must be accepted by the other residents. The community is seeking spiritually oriented people, in particular healers and artists, who are financially self-sufficient (although there may be job openings at the healing center in the future). This is a vegetarian community.

FreeHaven is 20 acres minus the 6 I live on. Of the remaining 14 acres, 2 acres is set aside for temporary visitors or people which do not wish to purchase land. Four acres is set aside for a common area. The remaining land is for sale and includes common area priveleges. Temporary residents and visitors may use the common area also.

FreeHaven is an ideal opportunity for people to survive the Earth changes. At 6200 feet in north eastern Arizona, it will not be flooded. The climate is mild. It is one of the very best places on the planet to utilize solar energy. We have openings for temporary people as well as full land ownership for those wanting the security of knowing they are in charge of their own property. The community is 20 acres with 2 acres common. The common area is for both temporary and permanent residents.

The adjoing 20 acres is owned by another individual who wants to do the same thing as FreeHaven and his common area will border FreeHaven's common area effectively making an 8 acre common area.

An array of 4 solar panels faces south and produces 240 Watts which is stored in deep cycle batteries. The sun shines in Arizona every day. During the winter, the wind blows. The sun still shines also.

Our primary focus is on underground housing, since this requires neither heating or cooling at this climate, and also is safe in the event of predicted high winds.

FreeHaven is located in Witch Well, Arizona. Witch Well is about 25 miles North of St. Johns Arizona on US 191. The community is approximately 2 miles off the paved road.

Wildlife in the area include jack rabbits, coyote, and deer. Elk and Bear are only 20 miles away. In the event that the weather conditions continue to become more extreme due to the planetary alignment on May 5 of the year 2000, or El Niño, or the ice breaking off of the South Pole, or the ring of fire, or earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, etc. being underground and self sufficient will be critical. Especially if hungry people are after your food. In any event, this place is safe. According to Scallion, this place will be tropical after the earth changes. According to Ed Dames, we have as good a survival rate as any. According to the Indians, Carma makes it's turn and the area is paradise. According to Mormons, it is as good as any place. According to me, I like it.

We are looking for 7 or 8 families, that enjoy the peacefulness of country living and are willing to share their talents and expertise for the betterment of everyone involved.

There are 3 underground streams at between 25 and 50 feet below the surface.

We are not a religious organization, other than being Christian, and hold the belief that a person's religious beliefs are a personal thing.

Simply put, we are a peace loving people. We don't bother anyone. We are not pacifists, however, and will protect what is ours when necessary. We will not tolerate the use of illegal drugs or any illegal activity.

New Horizons is our vision of a camping retreat, Bed and Breakfast, and perhaps a demonstration project for sustainable living.

At this point it is only a vision. We are currently looking for land in Northern Arizona to realize our vision. We envision a place striving to live lightly and in harmony with the earth. A place for people to come to rest and relax in a nurturing setting. There will be opportunities to grow as well. We intend to have activities, workshops and classes available on subjects from Massage to Solar Energy.

We plan on using Solar Energy and Wind Energy to provide our electricity,heating and cooling needs. We plan on using solor passive, earth bermed structures. These may be based on the Earthship(tm) design created by Michael Reynolds.

Guests will have several choices on where they would like to stay. For instance they can bring their tent, rent one of ours, or; possibly experience a Tipi or Yurt. Planned are a few earth-sheltered domes that can be used year-round. Guests can also enjoy staying at our environmentally sensitive Bed and Breakfast.

Located in the White Mountains of Arizona on 20 acres of pines in a mild climate. Would you like to wake up to birds singing and listen to coyotes howling at night and stumble across awesome elk during the day?

Who are we? We are David and Jan Lerner, planning a community to be run by consensus of all its members.

These are the basic ideas that we plan to build the community around:

The land is in Navajo County (population 100,000 plus 25,000 seasonal visitors), we are close to the Navajo and Apache Reservations. The land we purchased was inhabited by Anazasi Indians and has good energy for meditation. We are building a solar home with a solarium and a hot tub. We are 14 miles from Show Low and Snowflake, 200 miles from Phoenix, Tucson and Albuquerque.

In the beginning stages of building, we have no cottage industry, so all the residents will need a way to support themselves. People may rent or buy in to the community. There are some jobs available in the nearby towns. We will be growing a lot of our own food. No smokers, drug users or heavy drinkers.

We are already off the grid having a solar well with a 3000 gallon storage tank and a 3 bedroom house, solar powered and attached to a septic tank. All electricity will be from solar panels, wind generators and other options that become available. Internet access will be by cellular phone. Price estimates for rental or buy-in will be given on request.

Jan is an intuitive healer, health coach and massage therapist. She is building her business locally and can coach long distance by phone and by email. Jan uses her maiden name for business purposes.

David is a computer programmer, specializing in database systems. He is making the transition to a home-based business doing database design and programming, probably for the internet. To see more click on David's Resume.

Windtree's Summerland Monastery
An Eco-Village
Here in Arizona there are no zoning laws, no building codes, and the entire parcel of land that is WindTree was stamped tax-free on January 22, 1997. (I thought this was a great 50th birthday present). However, being so fragile, the land must be viciously protected, and as such, the requirements to permanently live here have to be very, very stringent.

We have had to spend countless hours agonizing over the legal requirements of Summerland, based not only on what we as individuals thought would be nice, but also over what the corporations stand for, what the monastery really represents, to us, to the Pagan community, and to the IRS specifically.

This is a serious spiritual, mundane, and legal undertaking...and asking for 1,240 acres of tax-free land is not a joke. Neither is asking to never again have money to spend as we would want. One does not take on a vow of poverty on a lark. We have had to put aside so much of our own emotions to do this job. Our Goddess has constantly tested us; She is present every day in all that we do, listening to all that we say.

Being out of the rush, rush life of a "normal American" makes me realize why the group I taught for years I called "Shaman's Trail"...the path of the Shaman. I relate to that path. I am a wounded healer. I am a Shaman.

This has been a real time of self-examination. Like Buddha, I have had to give up those I loved to take this path (the latest sacrifice was contact with my dear daughter and her family, whom I have always adored). Don also gave up things he loved. That's what commitment to our Crone Goddess means; strip away what you don't need so that rebirth can take place.

My name is Glenn and I'm an alternative home builder in Arizona. I've worked on "Earthships" (tire and can homes), domes and conventional construction.

Perhaps you (or members of your group) would be interested in a reasonably inexpensive modern "castle" for survival and growth.

I'm just passing this on. Its our method, but you can probably figure it out from the following:

1st: Hand cast concrete domes.

Dig a circular foundation (try 30' diameter first), set a three-bar triangle of rebar (three eights) suspended by half inch rebar set every 16 inches which should extend a foot above the poured concrete foundation. (you have a concrete circle with rebar sticking up every 16")
Tie 1/2" rebar (8 foot pieces) to each leg. Use 3/8" rebar to ring the 1/2" every 16".
Setting a stake in the center, pull a cord to the inside of the rebar, knot it there, and use it to calibrate your domes shape.
Build a dome "cage" out of the rebar.
On the outside, attach (with bailing wire) heavy, paper backed stucco wire.
Frame in doors with angle iron (same windows).
Coat the stucco wire with layers of plastic concrete (the kind they make parking garages out of) by hand in 1/2" amounts, or use a Goldblatt rystex gun at fully opened at about 120PSI. You'll have to play with the mix. We used 4 to 1 sand to concrete. Plastic Concrete will allow you to apply "layers" of concrete. When an inch thick and dry, pull paper from inside and continue the process. Total thickness shouldn't be less than 3", go as thick as you want (but add extra rebar cage every 4 inches)

. 2nd: Lay out four domes (or more) as a square, rectangle or circle. Face doorways to the "inside".

3rd: Using "tirewalls" [see example pic

By placing aquaculture ponds in the center, you have earth for the walls and your food supply is protected. A large solar powered hydroponic greenhouse on the south side of the north wall provides food and filters the pond(s).

East and west walls (respectively) should have covered walkways front to back. Roof water should drain into cisterns for storage (if no well). Always have a backup for public utilities if used. We recommend total self-sufficiency.

This is a real inexpensive way to create a home/business that would really be a "Urban/Rural Castle".
