Churches have a unique opportunity to prepare for Y2K.
They are ALREADY communities of people of KNOWN qualities.
A church can do things like organize around a rural member,

Thanks for the opportunity to respond. We have a course specifically for community leaders. If folks move into a community but are still basically unprepared in understanding survival skills and knowledge it will merely be a group of folks together instead of apart - but still with no real way to survive.
If you wish to let folks know about our school and our class - please do. We offer a lot more than survival straws and dehydrated food - we teach and provide knowledge. This is "back to dirt" survival training - based on the teachings of Stalking Wolf, Apache medicine man and elder who taught Tom Brown, Jr.
New course: Individual Preparedness and Survival Training for Community
Leaders. 3-day course, cost $225. Intense physical class.

Regards and good luck surviving the changing times!

Spiritual, metaphysically-minded deist seeking other innovative, emotionally adept, possibility-oriented individuals. Presently in San Francisco, relocating to Santa Cruz by early '99 (Santa Cruz has experience in these type of things after the Loma Prieta Earthquake isolated them for a few weeks). I believe a mixture of pragmatic and assertive people may yield a balanced community. Should be diversity-minded as to race, sexual orientation and gender. Looking to create an "Esalen" mentality of people with positive, leadership skills that promote peaceful solutions but who are willing to challenge potential aggressors if the need arises. Basically, people who see the impending crisis potential as great opportunity for humanely and intellectually re-engineering the processes that were already breaking down and ill-affecting the planet and its creatures.

Blackberry (formerly Community Evolving) is a close-knit intentional family committed to living, working, learning, and growing together in the Sierra foothills north of Nevada City, California. We place much value on raising our children and ourselves in a nonviolent, healthy emotional and physical environment.
We are an income-sharing group, working to perfect our egalitarian, collective economics. The adults gather regularly for business and emotion-sharing meetings, and for family meetings where children participate fully. All our decisions are made by consensus.
In our daily lives we like to experiment with various forms and rituals gleaned from many sources. We share an Earth-based spirituality, celebrating the seasons together.
The main focus of our community is responsible stewardship of the Earth, starting with this 50 acres of mixed conifer and hardwood forest. We are looking to create an environmental learning center here, to help people appreciate the integrity of the forest ecosystem.
We need initiators for this project: people with design experience in educational curriculum, architecture, organic agriculture, permaculture, forest management, and nonprofit corporations. We also need people with skills in building, teaching, gardening, and bookkeeping. We see the community being active in local and global issues of health, peace, and the environment. Underlying all this is the desire to be deeply involved in each others' lives, to be sources of inspiration and learning for each other, and to grow older and wiser together.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Y2K presents an opportunity to revive and enlarge the very American habits of community, neighborliness, helpfulness.
We believe that awareness is the best offense against dismay and panic.
We also believe that now is the time to prepare for all recognizable contingencies. Without being overly gloomy, we agree with many others that it is too late to avoid some dislocation as a result of Y2K.
SB 2Kwise advocates informed preparedness…
stockpiling, not hoarding…cooperation not contention.
We have started to reach out, to government agencies, business associations, educational and medical institutions, non-profits…as broad a range of vertical and horizontal organizations as we can reach.
We strongly urge neighbor to help neighbor, especially to succor the disadvantaged. We recommend determination…and a smile.
With this resolve, we can turn apparent Adversity to Advantage.
SB 2Kwise
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
You are not helpless. People help People.
Awareness: Stay informed. Keep on top of developments. Share reliable information with neighbors and friends, to disperse exaggerated fear and panic. Keep your children informed, so they do not become worried and distraught.
Be aware that elements of the national media will play on your fears, peaking in summer and early fall 1999. "News" coverage will be overblown, in attempts to achieve pure commercial advantage. We know of two major theater-release movies and two made-for-TV films now in preparation for third quarter 99 release.
One antidote is the internet. SB 2Kwise will continually monitor sites and publicize the best of them on its own website, which will be operating soon.
We will also work with the local media to provide timely, accurate information for all.
If you doubt gossip you hear, go to the source. Check and debunk rumor!
Local Preparedness: Be foresighted. Remember that Y2K comes in winter.
Make an inventory of your own domestic needs. Project out 30 days…90 days…List the purchases you will have to (and can afford to) make.
It is also likely that shortages will occur well in advance of New Year's 2000. Earthquake preparedness outlines are a help; another will be available from SB 2Kwise; we are looking into ways of circulating it to all.
Gather with your neighbors to discuss things you might do jointly. For instance, a power supply. Discuss cooking; water-and-bulk-dry-goods storage facilities; equitable buying and distribution. Consider and, if possible, make allowance for those in your vicinity who may not be able to purchase large amounts of goods in advance.
Share your wisdom, your good humor, yourself.
Broader Preparedness: Outside your own residential area, check the social, cultural, educational groups of which you are a member(s). Ask them to find a role they can play in the community effort.
Be alert to discussions in local schools; churches; to communications from your water district; sanitation district; utilities.
Be open to innovation and improvisation. Use your initiative and your imagination.
Smile.

A survival group has been established in Northern California with a 200+ acre parcel of land. We are looking for Christian families who seek an inexpensive solution to the Y2K dilemma. Each 1 to 1-1/2 acre site is secured by a land lease arrangement ranging from $1,500 for one year to $2,500 for two years.
This is not a money making venture but one designed to help bring like-minded people together through potentially troubling times. If we can provide further information please contact us via email.

We are a new group dedicated to helping the citizens of our community become
aware of the Y2K situation and prepare neighborhoods to deal with it.
We have had four meetings with speakers from several walks of life, from
city officials, emergency management, survivalists, the medical field etc.
Our fifth meeting, the last in the current series is March 25th. We wish to
concentrate our efforts on raising public awareness, and training volunteers
to canvas neighborhoods, to identify the special needs population, and bring
together all who would like to add their energies to this task.
Would like to hear from any one in Lompoc, and surrounding area, northern

I'm not singing the praises of Craig Casey, but telling you
how seriously i've taken this problem. I've moved out of
the city into the high desert. I chose my location very
carefully. I have a garden, livestock and a garage full of
canned goods. I had none of this (or a desire for it) until
i learned about Y2K.
In short, i've prepared like no one else i know. I think i
would be responsive to everyone that
had questions in CA. I'm not just talking "awareness" but
extensive real life preparedness. And i'm also Christian!

href="http://www.4oliveus.com">http://www.4oliveus.com We need help. We have the best investments in the world right now but have no cash flow and could get in trouble if we don't sell something. We feel we have been preparing for this time for 30 years, since we left the bay area to live on the land. We learned to grow all our food and didn't have to go to the store (except for toilet paper and matches). Life was blissful and we wanted to share.
When I came into a divorce settlement we decided to invest in land so as to help others know this life. Then the politics of forestry caught us (with illegal cutting) and the years went by. Before we knew it, it was time to make money! We knew that the olive oil we had learned to make was the direction and with an inheritance we bought a state of the art mill from Italy. We have done the set up on a shoestring, thanks to our friends, but now we need capital.
People will be cashing in on stocks, and having land or food products seems to me to be the best investment you could have at this time. Our vision for these lands was to create villages the could support themselves. This 100 acres has the olive oil mill, another was to have a spa, another a wool and sheep cottage industry, another a CSA (community supported agriculture). We also know how to build with adobe and bamboo and strawbales are abundant near here.
We are located in Butte and Tehama Counties of Northern California. We have 3 lands with year round creeks and good soil, olive and prune orchards, and a mill to make olive oil. All lands are very special in this territory. We have been preserving them until others can get on them and now we can no longer financially support them. They are all 30 min. to 1 hr. from Chico.
Can we all join together to make these real visions happen? Can this computer system that is failing be used to link us. We did this 4 olive us, where is everybody? The time is now. Peace to us all, Su

Hi. My name is Brenda and I live in Los Angeles. I am concerned about LA and its lack of information distribution about Y2k. I attended a meeting held by our city council on the matter of the needs of the physically challenged, and in one presentation they spent 20 minutes talking about fire extinguishers. The man in charge of information systems, for the Mayor's office on y2k, spoke for 15 minutes and the council had no questions for him.
Our city council gave $100,000 to a PR firm to educate the public about y2k, some 4 million of us, but gave the LA police $4.5 million! Its a disaster in the making. Thus I am writing you for help and support.
If you could contact me at your earliest
convenience,it would be
greatly appreciated?
Thank you..

Looking to contact people in the Chico area. I have been involved in survival preparedness for
twenty-five years. What I am not interested in is: hate groups, doomsday cults, or secret cliques.
I do believe in the right to keep and bear arms, but i am not interested in joining or forming an
extreme paramilitary org. I do believe in being involved in my community, but I am not looking
to join or form a polictical action committee.I am not interested in hiding,or threating,or causing
harm to anyone who is not trying to harm me.I don't believe in perfection, but: I try to be law abiding, and I do believe that there will always be real threats to our way of government and our
every day existance eg. fire, flood, earthquake, weather problems, economic changes ,y2k,etc.
I am not going to eat my fellow human beings----push my mother-inlaw out to sea on a ice flow,
or develop a"killer instinct" just to survive! I have nothing to sell---and i am not seeking converts.
I believe in personal sovereighty and in being a warrior , but without a tribe [community] there
is no need for warriors.

Redwood Community is a small community in the Santa Cruz Mountains with an opening for a family.
We are presently a group of 6 adults and 3 kids. Our ages range from 3 to 65 years old, and we currently have space for a family with two more kids. We have come together to form an extended family.
For the kids we would like to create a community that will give them other kids and additional positive adult role models to grow up with. For the adults we think that having more kids and adults around is fun, and makes our lives richer and more interesting.
We share vegetarian dinners, and a common kitchen. We take turns cooking once a week.
OUR INTERESTS
Our interests include yoga, singing, drumming, high-technology, spiritual exploration, entrepreneurial businesses, children and simply living.
We are interested in creating community traditions, which presently include wood-fired bread baking, community dances, harvest activities, as well as celebrations for the holidays.
LOCATION
We are located in the Santa Cruz Mountains 12 minutes from Los Gatos, and 20 minutes from Santa Cruz.
THE PROPERTY
The property is 10 acres at the top of a ridge, with beautiful views, and a large main house. The property has a hot hub, pool, trampoline and large shop. A corner of the property has a redwood grove with old growth redwoods in it. A year-round creek bounds one side of the property, and we have a large orchard and lots of space for organic gardens as well.
