Booths in computer shows don't work. Very few community leaders are listening, so I have refocused on getting information directly to the public through the Dateline 2000 newspaper. The paper directly gets a reader's attention, then explains the headlines as possible scenarios and then provides key information about the current Y2k situation and preparation options. My thoughts are that at some critical mass, only public opinion will affect the media to cover this event, and the leaders to take notice.

i am looking forward to meeting like minded individuals in my area. like a lot of people, i live paycheck to paycheck. I can't afford to go out and buy a years supply of food in bulk quantities. What i have done is made a list of everyday items that i normally buy at the grocery store and on every trip i purchase a little extra. it is amazing how fast your pantry can grow. at the same time i have been contacting manufacturers to find out the shelf life of products. Did you know that Starkist tuna has a shelflife of 4-5 years? Attached you will find my list. a couple of items, dried oleo(margirine), and dried eggs, i would not normally purchase, but decided the extra cost would be worth it. So far the best dried margirine product i've found is Butter Buds. i have not found a dried egg product at the store.
i also have another list for nonfood items. this data base was also done with Works for Windows.
I hope my idea can help someone else.

The philosophy of BeyondY2K is as follows:
We are first and foremost preparing for the worst and hoping for the best when it comes to the Year 2000. In that preparation, we have learned that we should have been doing a lot of things differently a long time ago. For example, solar or wind power rather than nuclear or fossil fuels. It is our hope to encourage others who are interested in surviving the upcoming disaster to change the way they live permanently in an effort to restore the environment.
Second, we, along with many others in the USA, are not happy with the direction which our government has taken. People don't seem to realize that every time new legislation is passed, in some small way, we give up some of our freedom. The combined legislation that has been passed over the years, has changed the way in which we live to one of constant controversy, and pushed us away from the goals we once had as a nation. The continued drug culture and crime as well as the loss of good morality among our people is proof that the government is not helping us. The government overstepped its Constitutional boundaries long ago and we need to stop government intervention in our lives and learn to help one another again. The people have little idea of what government powers are really doing and they have lost the ability to control the government. Instead, government now controls our lives as we find ourselves constantly being told to fill out many, many forms and supply our "number" to do most anything in our lives. Big Brother is Watching and it's time to stop it.
Obviously, I could go on and on but I think you get the picture! The Year 2000 could just possibly be the governments own undoing. If so, we need to be ready to take advantage of the situation and reclaim our freedom.
The site will be devoted to Y2K preparation and survival with a homesteading philosophy in mind. Back to a simpler life and time but with some of the environmentally safe assistance of good technology.

The New Freedom Fleet will be composed of individuals and families who want to use boats to survive any Y2K meltdown and then to rebuild a new and better society. Some crew positions may be open to non-owners. Freedom from civilized addictions such as clothing will be optional and acceptable. Mutually considerate, helpful, and supportive behavior is expected. Members will communicate by email before Y2K; later by email, VHF radio, HAM radio, or whatever. Local fleets will form wherever there are enough boats. If meltdown occurs, boats will rendevoux at pre- designated locations.
My wife and I have a boat (see website) and want to start a New Freedom Fleet in Charlotte Harbor in SW Florida.
