It is recommended that you go through the following 10 steps in studying about the nuclear threat to Georgia.
1. Look at the State Map above to see the target nuclear areas in Georgia.
2. Look at the general expected fallout map to see where Georgia

prevailing wind pattern)
gets fallout from other states.

Most of these, however, have no direct interest or preparation in regards to nuclear survival. At the bottom of this page is a Directory of our contacts in Georgia. Many of the local entries for states were listed because of their Y2K concerns and may not have any nuclear concerns.

A CHURCH based community.
Churches have a unique opportunity to prepare for Y2K.
They are ALREADY communities of people of KNOWN qualities.
A church can do things like organize around a rural member,
who already has a farm and who knows agriculture.

I've just opened a website for Roswell and other communities north of Atlanta. The idea is to share info about electric and water utilities level of preparation.
I also have a forum for these neighborhods to share information on how they are preparing. The biggest part is articles to convince as many people as possible that Year 2000 is going to be a big problem.
This web site is one of the tools I'm using to educate my neighbors and get them to work together.
I'd be grateful if any of my friends on Y2K survival mailing list could look at the site. If you have any articles to contribute on skills like gardening or canning or other issues, I would sure like to see them. I'm especially interested if any of you live in neighborhoods north of Atlanta like Canton, Alpharetta, Marietta, Norcross, Roswell, Cumming, Snellville, etc. on hearing about how your neighborhood is preparing or how you are getting prepared as a family.
My neighborhood Y2K web site is at:

I have enjoyed helping others prepare
themselves and would like to help many others prepare. Y2K is only a start,
there is many more things to come.
I am interested to hear of any individuals in the Athens, Georgia area. I am in a rural area and I am planning on riding out the storm here in my bunker. I have another friend who is on 10 acres further out and this is my bugout area in case things get worse, but I don't know of anyone in my general area but him.
I am not affiliated with any militia group or religious organization, I am just a realist.
I am also buying ham radio equipment in the HF (Low Bands) to communicate with other groups, I know Water, Food, and Firearms are the main essentials but I also think we need communication to keep in contact with other groups. I know with minimal setup (Radio + Antenna) you could be communicating with other survival groups in your areas and others in states far away for under $400.00. I have several suggestions for groups or people with nearly no budget for this kinds of stuff.
Radio Communications is an important part of the Y2K Survival process. I recommend that users get Ham Licensed (Amateur Radio). This will allow you the use of radio for communications and depending on the frequency and power output then you maybe able to reach your neighbors down the street or you may be talking with someone in Europe. This is all dependent on the type of communication equipment you purchase.
I know for allot of us we do not have the funds to be purchasing radio equipment, however I say to only get communication gear if you can afford it. My primary stores would be water, food, ammo, medical, and the last I would worry about is a two-way radio. If anything an HF receiver (Short-wave type Radio) would be a be sufficient to at least hear what is going on and it would be the least cost.
Those of you who have decided to add communication to your group I commend you and hope that this is helpful to you. Groups should follow the 10/2 rule for every 10 people you have 2 people should be radio trained. This will allow for people who get sick or are unable to operate the radio units.
Older radios from time to time need spare parts, you should contact a repair depot and find out what problems people send their units in to be repaired on. Having problem pieces replaced before they go bad or having extra tubes in some cases will determine if your radio will transmit or not. Remember there will most likely be nobody around to repair your unit so you need to get those extra parts beforehand.
Groups should also have at least 1 extra antenna for transmitting, makeshift antennas for receiving can be improvised. There are several books on the subject of making antennas for transmitting and making makeshift antennas. These could be very handy if you have a damaged antenna or are in need of one.
Training should be ongoing on the proper radio usage and the case of the unit. Users should all be trained and licensed (For Now). Classic information on this can be downloaded and printed out for later use. This information will also be useful to anyone who is studying for their Ham License.
My view is that the HF radio's with their ability to transmit on the lower bands allow us to communicate as only the military did in the 50's 60's and 70's. The HF bands are what our Civil Defense units and police units had used for years to communicate. The HF Ham bands include 160m ~ 10meters or about 1.8Mhz to 29.7Mhz. Ham bands also include VHF/UHF Bands (6m ~ 1240 Band), however these don't travel as far as easily as do the HF bands. There will of course be users on these frequencies due to their popularity and their ease of licensing. Equipment for either of these band groups is roughly the same price unless your using handhelds which are less costly but are normally found only the VHF/UHF Bands (6m~1240 Band) (Very Few Handhelds are of HF Band). Users in remote areas may find it difficult to communicate effectively or at all using the VHF/UHF Bands due to their limited capabilities, however in a metro/city area this would work out fine due to their close distance of people. Most of our groups are settling in remote areas and the HF bands would make it much easier to communicate with groups states away from your own.
Power is a serious problem that should be taken seriously, a typical base radio with a 100watt output will need 12 volts with 20Amps. Every community will have to deal with the power problem independently but you should remember that without adequate power you radio will not run or may run but cannot transmit. Generators are a nice source of power, However cheaper units will cause power fluctuations and may have feedback that can damage you radio. Adapters can be added to the circuits to eliminate any feedback that maybe caused by generators or other power sources. Batteries are another choice of power for communications, however they need to be recharged often. Solar is an option for those of you living in areas with adequate sunshine, the down side is you need to have a fairly large solar array to keep 20Amps at 12 volts. These power sources should be combined if possible to give you constant and reliable power that can be used without damaging your equipment and keeping communication continuous.

I'm from Carnesville, Georgia USA, it's a very small town, we have only 1
redlight and if you blink twice your through the town. We live in a rural
area outside of the town. Our closest neighbors are not interested in
planning for the future any further than dinner. One good thing is they
all grow their own food and raise cows. So they will have some sort of
reserves of thier own. The down side is they are all very old. My husband
and I are going to put up enough food for our family x12. Hopefully, we
can survive and serve.
