Mahontongo Spirit Garden

We are a community of gay men seeking a spiritual life outside traditional religions. We are not Christian or any other denomination or religion. We call ourselves Harmonists because we seek harmony through our very diversity. Instead of a cloister, we are a hermitage where each man has his own hermit's house for contemplation and living. There is a central community building for cooking, eating and meditation.
We are a 63-acre farming operation that has a variety of animals - cows, goats, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens - and we raise much of our own food.
Emphasizing self-sufficiency, we do not use electricity at the hermitage itself, though the library and archives building located six miles away is electrified and has other modern amenities such as a furnace and hot water which the cloister lacks. Crafts, work shops and retreats provided sources of income. We hand set and hand print a newsletter, "The Harmonist," $15 for four issues. We seek a diversity of non-traditional beliefs and firmly believe that IDIC, Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combination, is not just for Vulcans. We encourage visitors to write in advance. Open primarily in Summer.
